Negro Insondable
Born m Puntarenas 73 years ago, son of Chinese emigrants, and with the privilege to count with a maternal figure that induced him through the roads of the experimentation and the fantasy, Isidro Con Wong, presents in the National Gallery, an exhibition under the theme, "Black unsounded", synthesis of 27 years dedicated to painting.
We could ask, with a certain affirmation, if there is a relation between his first paintings of naif cutting and these pictures of monochromatic prominence.
Definitely the relation is much deeper than what we think. Since his childhood, he played, following his mother orientation, to let drops of Chinese ink fall on white leaves, producing his first childlike work gestures.
Then in his first phase as an established painter, he used to prepare his canvas with a black painting base on which he would place his colors and figures of' primitive cutting. Today it is black on black. Same signs 'a accompany him in both proposal amalgamated with the fantasy,, with cows resting on the branches of the trees surrounded by spirals, landscapes with its planets, stars and galaxies.
In both periods the blending is present, but in the black paintings, the blending is accentuated and the line is charged of energy, example of experience and mystery.
For Isidro Con Wong, the cultural influence of the East is very strong, as it recalls the words of his grandfather in which in the black there is light, and that the obscurity is not the end, but the beginning, While this phase fullfils with emotion, and joins him with his ancestors, to whom he yields tribute with gestual movements originated from his unconscious and carries out these 20.works that is presented for our delight.
